Our Energy Group provides offshore services to the oil and gas industry, particularly subsea engineering and tender-assisted drilling through our majority-owned subsidiary, Mermaid Maritime Public Company Limited, and includes coal mining and production through our 21% equity stake in the Merton Group.

Offshore Oil and Gas Services

Mermaid Maritime Public Company Limited ("Mermaid") is a leading provider of tender-assisted rig drilling and sub-sea engineering services for the offshore oil and gas industry globally. Mermaid is recognised by the industry for delivering high quality services, safely and efficiently to its blue chip client base that includes some of the world's major oil and gas companies.

Mermaid provides tender rig drilling services through its majority-owned subsidiary, Mermaid Drilling Limited ("MDL"), which owns two (2) tender drilling rigs. It also has one (1) newbuild tender drilling rig under construction owned by another majority-owned subsidiary, Mermaid Kencana Rig 1 Pte. Ltd. ("MKR-1").

Mermaid provides sub-sea engineering services through its wholly-owned subsidiary, Mermaid Offshore Services Ltd. ("MOS"). MOS owns eight (8) sub-sea vessels, including three (3) high specification DP2 DSVs, four (4) saturation diving systems, ten (10) offshore air diving systems and fourteen (14) Remotely Operated Vehicle ("ROV") systems including deepwater and ultra-deepwater heavy construction class systems.

Mermaid operates a world class facility at its operational base in Chonburi, Thailand, which allows it to control its own maintenance and refurbishment requirements, and its proximity to several ports allows Mermaid to mobilise expeditiously and efficiently to its clients' locations. Mermaid also has shore bases in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; Balikpapan, Indonesia; Qatar, Middle East; and Singapore to support its operations, and additional shore bases can be set up at short notice using a network of local contacts.

Mermaid has a partnership with Kencana Petroleum Ventures Sdn. Bhd. ("KNPV") to jointly own a tender drilling rig (through a company owned 75.0% by Mermaid and 25.0% by KNPV) and to market and operate it in Malaysia (through a Petronas-licensed company 60.0% owned by KNPV and 40.0% by Mermaid).

Mermaid holds an 80.0% stake in Seascape Surveys, a South East Asian based provider of hydrographic surveying and positioning services, and 100% of Subtech Ltd, a subsea contractor based in Qatar that provides quality turnkey sub-sea engineering services to local and international clients within the Middle East and Persian Gulf region.

Coal Mining

Merton Group (Cyprus) Ltd. owns 40% equity in over 12,000 hectares of coal concessions in the Philippines which it operates with its local Philippine partner, SKI Construction Group Inc.

Exploration drilling is well advanced, and the initial mine site is nearing completion, with first coal production expected in June 2010.

The initial mine site will occupy less than 100 hectares of the 12,000 hectares licensed, yet exploration drilling has indicated the potential for substantial additional coal deposits which it is expected will provide significant opportunity for future growth.
